You are now looking at the cemetery Latitude N34 48.766 x Longitude W82 56.077 CHURCH/CEMETERY HISTORY: ------------------------ From: eradavis Sent: Monday, November 06, 2006 6:36 PM James and Mary Cannon I have given, also Malissa Cannon Morgan. As for Mary Capehart she was 1st wife of John R. M. Cannon who is buried above 183 in a development just after you cross Lake Keowee and she was moved, it seems, from the Cannon Family cite Island in the lake. His 2nd wife is buried at Camp Creek Baptist Pickens County Sc. J.A. Cannon is a child of John R.M. Cannon's brother, Jacob Canemore Cannon and Frances Ann Curtis. Thomas or Wm Cannon, brothers, was killed by the other and buried in a River bottom land and later move to Old Pickens with coming of the lake. His marker is flat on the ground at right side of Old Pickens Presbyterian, Seems you have an Emma. If so, she is also child of John R.M. and now at Wolf Stake #1?, buried with Erwin and Nancy Cannon Powell. Thomas D. Morgan was s/o John Morgan of Oconee County [1809/1870] m. Ruth "Rutha" Cannon sister to John R.M. Both were buried in a Cemetery in the New Hope Community on the W.I. Wickliffe's property but with coming of lake removed in 1970 to Old Pickens along with 2 other markers saying only Morgan. Now, in my records I have only child, Harriett b. ca 1847 and Johnston b. ca 1834 with no more information. They had lived on a large plantation. On John Gresham, I have much information including the speeches given at laying of Dar marker have some conflicting reports I will have to look into concerning John Gresham Sr and wife Barbara Burdine and John Jr's 1st wife Martha Halbert's burial place. From Cateechee Trail, Keowee to 96 1776-1976 under graves relocated to Old Pickens due to coming of Lake Keowee are John Gresham and wife Burdine and his son John Gresham and wife Martha. Need to check Old Stone Cem and stones in old Pickens. I do not remember that many stones in Gresham that were removed and seem to remember Martha Halbert being buried at Old Stone Church. John Jr. m.2 in later life to widow, Elizabeth /coats widow of Thomas John Sr b Hobbs Hold, Essex Co, Va. 1-8-1717 and died Sc 1814. Did they die Abbevillle Dist? Barbara was daughter of Richard Burdine and Catherine Tanner Halbert and sold out in Va. 1764 their first land grant in SC was 1781. John Jr Esq was b. 3-14-1761 Culpepper County, Va/6-22-1835 Pickens District and m. 1st 11-13- 1788 Martha Halbert 3-27-1772 Va/6-12-1810 Pickens District daughter of Wm Halbert and Elizabeth Hill. John Jr came to Pendleton by 1783, m 1788 and settled on Town Hill where he built a grist mill. Mrs Mills told me there was no evidence Barbara ever came to SC but my Halbert records say she came to S.C. with her brother 1783 and married there. Seems Jr. was buried in Craig Cemetery were it was moved then moved with Craig bodies to Old Pickens. Mr Jaynes in his speech ad memorial placing also said the two Gresham couples were removed to Old Pickens. I think it was Jr. and Elizabeth - will check when I can. James Erskine Todd 14 July 1825 Pendleton District/28 Aug 1862 in battle of Lynchburg, Va. [Son of William and Mary] m. Catherine Wilson about 1845 they buried Wilson/Todd Cemetery. Either 7, or 9 children. I have names. o----------o From: eradavis [mailto:eradavis@bellsouth.net] Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 12:03 PM It is of little concern but was looking Old Pickens Cemetery and note in Oconee vol2 p.260W.D.Gant 17 Jan 1870/3 June 1900? These are the dates I have for William David Cannon he was murdered by his brother Tom and buried in a river bottom but removed at coming of lake. He had reportedly to have m. Sally Gant and they had 2 children. He was s/o John R.M .Cannon whose grave was found and preserved Oconee side of Keowee in the new development above the road and wife 2, Elizabeth Davis.
